Smugglers RestIt looks like Turbine has outdone itself once again. They have a great new live event planned for the 5th anniversary of Dungeons and Dragons Online! This time they are taking everyone back to the early days of original starter area. Those that played before Ebberon Unlimited was released will recognize this area. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with how it has been redone and expanded.

To get to this area head to the Harbor near the quest entrance to Arachnophobia on the wharf and talk to Sailor Calatin for a ride to Smugglers Rest. You must be level three to head out there so make sure you meet this minimum requirement.

Treasure Map Collecting

Start collecting Treasure Maps!

Once there look around a bit and make sure to talk to Euphonia Tales to see how many treasure map pieces are needed before the dungeon Crystal Cove is opened up. Euphonia he needs 5,000 treasure map pieces to open up Crystal Cove. Once open it remains open for 40 minutes.  Time enough for two runs if you are fast enough. Next to her is a box where you can trade in the collectibles you will find. Once she has enough pieces the dungeon Crystal Cove will open for awhile allowing you to enter. You will also need to get a Treasure Compass to enter. More on this in the Crystal Cove Quest Walkthrough article (Coming Soon).

Smugglers Rest Tavern

Make sure to bind and repair in the tavern.

Head into the Tavern and bind in case you get mobbed. Talk to the NPC’s in there, repair up etc. Just like the other events there are DDO Store items you can buy to boost drop rates or make humanoid creatures drop doubloons in other dungeons as well as increase your regeneration of HP/SP on the island. Grab those if you want them and get ready to get to work.

Pirates Looking For Treasure

These pirates will all jump you should you try to take their maps.

Buff up, grab your party if you have one, and head off to explore the island. If you are old school you will notice that Smugglers Rest has been expanded a lot and is now crawling with pirates! These pirates spawn just like the Halloween Mabar Event, matching your level. They are searching for map pieces as well and barely notice your passing.

Pirate Fight

This pirate is not going down without a fight.

They are a bunch of greedy pirates. You will have to take the map pieces from them. When you are ready, step up and take a swing at them, blast them with a spell or whatever. They will then agro on you once they are attacked and you can fight them normally. Be aware that some spells do not work out here. You can’t summon hirelings and the rules of engagement are slightly different then a full-fledged dungeon. You should also know that their tethers are very short so no kiting. However, if you get in trouble it is pretty easy to run away.

Pirate Doublons

Pirate Doublons!

The pirates will drop treasure map pieces that you must turn into the box next to Euphonia. They will also drop Gold, Silver, and Copper Doubloons that you will use to buy your base items. You will also use them for many other things so the more you have, the better! Pirates on the island have a chance to drop Treasure Compasses that you can use to enter Crystal Cove or you can trade in your doubloons for them (400 Copper Doubloons, 200 Silver Doubloons, 100 Gold Doubloons). There was also some players that reported special maps that lead to pirate treasure on the island!

Pirate Camp

There has to be pirates around here somewhere.

Sometimes the pirates are slow to spawn so zigzag around the area. You should see and hear them when they spawn. Take note of how many and how they are positioned. They can spawn on top of each other making what initially looks to be an easy fight turn into a nasty knock down drag out.

Smuggler's Rest Map

The island of Smuggler's Rest has been expanded.

Make your first order of business a whole sale slaughter of pirates to stock up on thousands of doubloons, you’re going to need them! Once you have your sacks full of doubloons check out the DDO 5th Anniversary Crafting Guide (Coming Soon) and make sure you get into quest Crystal Cove a lot to get the gems and Green Dragonshards you will need to upgrade the new items!

Good luck matey!

Play smarter, not harder!
