black-dragon-fightAlong with the coming release of Dungeons and Dragons Next, the 5th edition set to be released mid to late 2012, comes a further advancement of the story. This next chapter is called Rise of the Underdark and is set to thrust the drow onto the surface world to wreak havoc and to finally claim their place as the supreme race.

The story goes that the drow, cousins of the elves, were driven deep into the Underdark many ages ago by the other races of the world. But as anyone who watches the History Channel knows, this victorious belief, long held by those who did the banishing, is not the only possibility. While the “surface” races reveled in their supremacy and legend of banishment of the evil race to the Underdark, another story existed…

The different story, the true story, is even more amazing. Lolth, the chaotic drow goddess, seems to have used her knack for deception on the other races. Perhaps the drow of the Underdark were not banished at all. Perhaps they were led. Led to a place where they could train, endure, and learn to overcome the most vile and dangerous of creatures and environment alike. For thousands of years the drow have been in exile, yes, but also in training.

Now their training is finished, and Lolth is ready to send her people to the surface. Their perfection is complete. While the surface races grew fat and lazy, the drow perfected combat, magic, and a deep seated drive to kill, to destroy, and ultimately to win.
